TreadMoves
donates 5% of its profits toward the Humane
Society of the United States.
From time to time, however, our team is contacted about an animal needing
our help. In these special cases, we donate the contribution to individual
animals. So that you can experience the joy along with us in saving
these wonderful animals, below are a few of our rescue stories!
Freedom
is a Himalayan cat who was brought to the local SPCA in horrible condition.
His parents had completely neglected him from the time he was a baby,
so at one year old, Freedom's fur was completely matted to his skin.
His skin hurt so badly that he cowered whenever someone reached out
to touch him and he couldn't jump, play, or raise his tail to go to
the bathroom.
During 2 months of foster care, Freedom was vaccinated, neutered, and
completely shaved. Once liberated from his matts, Freedom learned how
to play, jump, sit in a windowsill, and stalk birdies (through a window).
He played for 6 hours a day!
Freedom is now in a loving home with another rescued Persian cat. He
and his sister play together and watch squirrels and raccoons together.
We love you, Freedom!
This
dog was found staggering in between several lanes of busy traffic. He
was starving and very confused, his skin
was raw and ravaged with fleas, and his nails were about 2 inches long.
We suspect he was neglected for quite some time. He was picked up by
an Animal Control Officer and taken to the SPCA. Although he improved
somewhat with food, water, and flea treatment while at the SPCA, he
was still in such bad shape that he would most likely not get adopted.
After hearing his story, we took him straight to the vet to be fostered.
He weighed in at 58 pounds (25 pounds underweight). The vet staff took
him under their wing .. his kennel was placed in their break room so
that everyone would love him and feed him snacks throughout the day.
This dog, now named Sweet Puppy, was ultimately adopted and is now spoiled
rotten. Not only does Sweet Puppy drink filtered water, but he even
had professional pictures taken of him. Take a look at this Sweet Puppy
now!
Lucy
& Linus were born to a breeder who kept them in cages and forced
them to breed for over 7 years. When she was done with them, she dumped
them at the local shelter with matted skin and teeth that were rotting
out. Lucy had lost most of her teeth, but Linus had shattered molars,
split canines, and horrible infection. As with many catteries, the breeder
had no concern about their genetics ... which means there are many offspring
of Lucy & Linus out there with their same genes for dental disease.
We
plucked Lucy & Linus from the shelter and took care of everything!
Lucy was spayed, Linus' teeth were extracted, and both cats were shaved
and bathed. Neither cat seemed to know how to play, but we took care
of that, too! We found a loving home that was willing to keep the pair
together. Because they have no teeth, they make a huge mess when they
eat ... but their new mom is happy to clean their little faces after
each meal!
